Camp Cowboy is always in need of volunteers to assist with the classes and other ranch activities.

ABOUT US

We believe through equine based experiences, education, and knowledge a vast multitude of “life’s scars” can be overcome allowing for a reconnected, well balanced life change for those in need. Our goal is to assist our participants with skills that can help them to navigate and overcome the stressors associated with military and public service.

At Camp Cowboy, we focus on the relationship that is formed between the veteran and the horse. This relationship is powerful, and one that allows the veteran to feel a connection they may have not felt in a long time. As a result, the veteran becomes more capable of reconnecting with those in their own lives with whom those relationships might have been lost.

Our program is for those with shared experiences of what it means to serve this country. Often veterans can develop the feeling that those experiences are unique to them, and as a result they feel alone. At Camp Cowboy, veterans are not alone, and they have a place to process experiences with others with shared experiences.

Camp Cowboy is a family, and a supportive one at that. Once someone has been through the program, or volunteered to make it possible, you begin to realize that everyone is truly there to support another. Camp Cowboy will always be there to support anyone experiencing hardship and loss.

Part of the Camp Cowboy approach is to make sure that after graduation from the program, alumni have the opportunity to give back to other veterans and make an impact. Helping others go through the program and watching their growth is what many of our graduates cherish the most.

Horses have the power to heal the soul

Equine experiences have proven to help promote physical and emotional growth in those persons with traumatic brain injuries, stroke recovery, stress, behavioral issues, abuse issues, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and many other health problems.
Equine assisted growth activities can build self-confidence, self-efficiency, communication, trust, perspective, social skills, impulse control, and boundaries. Since horses have similar behaviors as humans, such as social and responsive behaviors, it is easy for participants to connect with them.
